Making Connections

  In 1993 our resident artist, Concetta Morales completed a tile mosaic at Crestview Elementary School in Clive Iowa. The mosaic was a three part display that was titled "Past Present and Future". Almost twenty years later Hiatt Middle School students were able to connect with the students of Crestview about something they have in common.

This morning the 6th graders were lucky enough to Skype with the students of Crestview and share with them about Project Mosaic.

The Crestview students asked 

questions such as: 

  

What is the overall mosaic a picture of?
How did you come up with the design?
What is the process for making a mosaic?
How do you involve the students?
What does the mosaic at Crestview mean? Has the process changed since you made the mosaic at Crestview?

Hiatt Middle School

The Hiatt students continued to grout and clip tiles during the video chat so that the Crestview students could see the process. It was a great way to make a connection with students at a different school and share the project that is nearing completion in our art department!
